EDM Council Publishes Lengthy Update on Semantics Repository

The EDM Council has this week published a full update on its Semantic Repository project, following the completion of its initial development work on static data. The industry group has been working to make the repository more user friendly, says Mike Atkin, managing director of the EDM Council.

Lakefront/FISD Salary Survey Benchmarks Market Data Industry Compensation

The world may be going to hell in a handbasket, but the market data industry can take comfort in the fact that it remains a well compensated one. That, at least, is one of the findings of a survey of Data Management & Financial Information Professionals’ salaries conducted by Lakefront Data Ventures in collaboration with the Financial Information Services Division (FISD) of the Software & Information Industry Association.

FISD and Lakefront Data Salary Survey Highlights Data Management’s Modest Pay Scales

It is no secret that data management is a part of the financial services industry that has long been underfunded in comparison to other areas. To back up the anecdotal data that already exists about the plight of the data manager, the Financial Information Services Division (FISD) of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) and Lakefront Data Ventures have published a salary survey aimed at benchmarking pay data.

Market Data Insight First Words: Marking to Markit

It was surely no coincidence that an email exhortation to think about the “independence, objectivity and potential conflicts of interest” of vendors servicing the credit default swaps marketplace arrived in our inbox just a matter of days after Markit Group announced it was being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice about its activities in the credit-derivatives and related markets.

Bats CEO Slams Misstatements on ‘Flash’ Orders

Bats Exchange’s boss has hit out at misstatements among market commentators and legislators relating to the issue of so-called ‘flash’ orders, which scan multiple execution venues, including dark liquidity sources, for liquidity. Joe Ratterman issued a letter to interested parties yesterday, in the hopes of spurring further debate around what he reckons is a misunderstood topic. His letter is below:
