The curious world of regulatory news will watch with interest as Thomson Reuters moves to acquire Hugin Group from NYSE Euronext. The deal, announced this month, is expected to raise regulatory eyebrows, since it involves the acquisition of a Primary Information Provider (PIP), as defined under the UK Financial Services Authority’s interpretation of the EU’s Transparency Directive, by a Secondary Information Provider (SIP).
What goes around comes around, it seems. US brokerage Oppenheimer & Co. plans to roll out Thomson One Wealth Management to some 1,700 retail brokers under a new multi-million dollar deal signed with Thomson Financial. Thomson One will replace Oppenheimer’s incumbent provider, Reuters Plus, in place since 2003, when it replaced – yes, you guessed it – Thomson Financial’s ILX Systems quote terminal platform.
Celoxica’s extension of its suite of hardware-accelerated line handlers marks a move into full feed handler capability that will allow it to deliver full depth of order book data to client applications.
Tullett Prebon Information will supply over-the-counter data to Indian data vendor Ticker Plant Ltd. under a multiyear distribution deal signed this month. The agreement is the latest in a series of Asian contracts for Tullett Prebon, which appears to be targeting the region with some success.
Following its purchase of the Capco Reference Data Services (CRDS) business in February 2008, data management and reporting solution vendor Netik has taken the last 18 months to bed down the Global Securities Master (GSM) solution into its overall managed services portfolio. This work has resulted in the release of version 2.0 of the Netik GSM solution’s Netik Container component, which purports to give users more control over their reference and market data in the managed services environment.

Back in 2003 or so, A-Team organized a couple of very targeted breakfast seminars in London and New York around the theme of market data optimization. Then, as now, the marketplace was in the throes of recession, and market data was a prime candidate for cuts and more cuts.
