Reference data issues may be rising up the industry agenda as a result of risk management and regulatory considerations, but how much of a priority does your firm place on the data function. As stated during Reference Data Review’s exclusive interview with Paolo Bernini, head of information products at Swift, last week (see here), the industry owned cooperative has published a Bank Identifier Code (BIC) policy document to detail the rules for registration and usage of the codes. In line with its global expansion plans and a spate of recent new hires, investment management solution provider DST Global Solutions has added a new business development team to its on the ground presence in China. The team will be headed by Nancy Yu, who was previously head of sales for DST Global Solutions’ China and Hong Kong operations, and will be responsible for the introduction of new business solutions, as well as the identification of partnership and acquisition opportunities in the Chinese market.
Swift may have been rather cautious about its place in the business entity identification (BEI) space over recent years, but this is set to change, explains Paolo Bernini, head of information products at the industry owned cooperative. The financial messaging network provider is also not ruling out a possible future role in the European Central Bank’s (ECB) proposed reference data utility initiative, provided its users are keen on the idea.
Chi-X Europe criticised the London Stock Exchange’s decision to put it’s markets in auction mode following its latest platform outage.
As indicated during Sibos week earlier this year, Swift is currently sizing up its future potential in the market as part of its new 2015 strategy discussions. Arun Aggarwal, Swift’s recently appointed managing director for the UK, Ireland and the Nordics, and Gottfried Leibbrandt, head of marketing, explained the four potential strategies that are being considered as a way forward for the industry owned network over the next five years during a media briefing this week.
