Nascent asset manager Exclusive Quantitative Investment Management (EXQIM) has selected OneMarketData’s OneTick complex event processing (CEP) and database software to underpin quantitative strategy development and deployment in the US and European equities markets.
Openmarketdata.org - an initiative of the Collaborative Software Initiative (CSI) - has released a data feed handler for the Direct Edge Scratch feed. A community edition is available for free under an open source license, and at a cost for a commercially-supported enterprise edition.
The development of Avox’s online look-up tool for entity data, which it dubbed Wiki-data, is one of the major developments for the vendor over the last year, according to CEO Ken Price. He first elaborated on the idea in detail at last year’s FIMA in London (see our coverage here) and indicates that the tool has come on leaps and bounds in the meantime as a result of user feedback.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has passed a reform this week that issues additional rights to “long term” shareholders, who own or have owned continually for three years and have at least 3% of the company’s voting stock, to be able to nominate candidates to the boards of the companies they own. As well as its more obvious outcomes, this new measure will effectively add a new set of data items to be monitored at a group wide level for proxy voting purposes in order to determine who is characterised as a long term shareholder.
Post-trade solution vendor Information Mosaic is planning to launch a new asset surveillance solution later this year, in addition to promoting its upgraded client front end for its flagship corporate actions solution. Manmohan Singh, head of product leadership at the vendor and country head of its Indian operations, who joined the vendor back in October last year from Tata Consultancy Services (see our coverage here), explains that Information Mosaic was prompted to begin work on the new solution following the financial crisis and the ensuing focus on risk management within the market, and began development work in earnest in June last year.

The political debate on high frequency trading is running at its peak. On one side, regulators like the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are assessing the impact of high frequency trading on financial markets and whether there is a need for new regulation. On the other, firms engaged in high frequency trading stand united, claiming their major contribution to electronic trading is the way they increase efficiency and provide liquidity to the market.
Data giant Thomson Reuters is focusing on increasing its enterprise energy efficiency via a green IT approach to its data centres across the world. Harkeeret Singh, global head of energy and sustainable technology at Thomson Reuters, explains that although there are no public targets for energy and cost reduction at the moment, the vendor is currently evaluating the possible relocation of some of its data centres and the implementation of energy efficiency initiatives across its network of offices.
