Deloitte, the business advisory firm, has appointed Mike Sobers as a partner to its Enterprise Risk Services (ERS) practice, a 1,000-strong team of professionals in the UK dedicated to helping businesses solve complex risk and control issues.
Mike has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance sector covering technology and operational risk. He joins Deloitte from Aviva, where he was the audit director with global responsibility for technology and project audit. During this time, he was also the interim audit director for the Aviva UK General Insurance business. Prior to joining Aviva, Mike was a partner at KPMG, within its technology risk practice, with specific responsibility for insurance client services.
In his new role at Deloitte, Mike will focus on delivering controls, data, internal audit and security solutions for the firm’s insurance clients.
Simon Owen, lead ERS partner in the UK and EMEA, said: “Mike has excellent credentials in the insurance sector and is certain to further strengthen Deloitte’s existing capabilities and client service offering around insurance and business risk issues.”
Mike Sobers commented: “Many insurers are facing significant downward financial pressures as a result of continued economic uncertainty, and having to respond to imposing regulatory challenges and business demands. By looking at better ways of using and managing technology, insurers can make operations more secure and robust. For example, this might include further developing data management techniques, or enhancing the quality of internal audit functions to support their management. Important steps like these can help organisations move closer to achieving their business objectives. I look forward to working alongside and helping our clients implement appropriate solutions.”
