MiFID has met mixed reactions from the buy side with market participants noting the positive benefits of non-prescriptive regulation, no degeneration in liquidity and an acceleration in innovation. Negative outcomes of the regulation are cited as a lack of cost reduction, greater complexity in analysis and the failure of Continental Europe to keep pace with the UK in fulfilling MiFID requirements.
