Morning Keynotes and Panel Sessions
The morning conference sessions will take a broad look at the technologies that underpin low-latency trading, discussing the best approaches to adopting and deploying them.
8am - Exhibits Open. Breakfast and Coffee in exhibits - King George Room
Morning Conference - Porter Tun Room
8.45am - Welcome by Pete Harris, Publisher & Editor, Low-Latency.com

This discussion with Benjamin Stephens of Nomura International will explore the low-latency technology landscape to highlight the right choices to align investment in low-latency technologies with the business needs of electronic trading - including market data infrastructure, co-location and connectivity and FPGA adoption. * Pete Harris, Publisher & Editor, Low-Latency.com |
|
9.30am - Panel: “Low-Latency Connectivity – From Start to Finish” Connecting trading systems to market centres is generally the biggest contributor to latency, as data traverses local data fabrics and messaging middleware within trading firms and co-lo centres, and both metro and long-haul fibre networks. This panel will explore recent technology developments and futures for each segment of the electronic trading connectivity chain - wide area networks and fibre connects, co-location, local networks, and network interfaces, providing delegates with essential insight to guide their own strategic directions and deployments. * Pete Harris, Publisher & Editor, Low-Latency.com (Moderator) |
10.30am - Morning Break. Coffee/tea service in exhibits - King George Room

11am - Panel: “Low-Latency Computing – Milliseconds and Microseconds, Now Even Nanoseconds” Pushing down latency remains the goal of most trading operations, not always to be the fastest, but usually to be ahead of rivals. For some, that now means shaving off nanoseconds through hardware acceleration and shared memory. For others, it’s more about building a robust scalable architecture that can take advantage of performance increases from new technologies as they are introduced. For all, it means tracking the latest developments in hardware, systems software and development tools. This panel will review the state of the art in: the hardware platform, such as multi-core and multi-socket architectures, hardware acceleration, and solid state disks; the middleware stack, including IPC and ITC messaging, in-memory databases and Java technologies; and how applications such as complex event processing (CEP), execution management systems, pre-trade risk and matching engines are being built to take full advantage of the latest hardware and systems software. * Pete Harris, Publisher & Editor, Low-Latency.com (Moderator) |

While the lowest latency isn’t needed by all market participants, the efforts of exchanges and exchange technologists continue to point to its continual need in that segment. NASDAQ OMX’s Bjorn Carlson will discuss technologies and approaches that are in use today at markets around the world. * Björn Carlson PhD, VP of Software Architecture, NASDAQ OMX |
12.30pm Networking Luncheon - Buffet Service in exhibits - King George Room
Afternoon Workshop Sessions - Lower/Upper Sugar Rooms
The afternoon workshops will provide in-depth and interactive opportunities to explore specific low-latency technologies.
|
Lower Sugar Room The London Stock Exchange Group and QuantHouse will be discussing the opportunities available to Member Firms, Non-Members, Vendors and Service Providers when co-locating their systems within the Exchange City of London Data Centre, and the benefits of being in close proximity to an established community of Brokers, Carrier Networks and Service Providers. The session will provide an overview on how clients can take advantage of the Exchange Hosting service and will outline how the new Sponsored Access connectivity product could dramatically reduce client end to end latency and simplify the way non-members connect to the Exchange and Turquoise Cash Equity markets. In addition, we will detail how the strategic partnership the Exchange has with QuantHouse to provide low latency Normalised and Raw Market Data and Order Routing services to Hosting clients is providing significant advantages to market Participants. * Andrew Bailey, Product Manager - Exchange Hosting and Proximity Services, IT Business Development, London Stock Exchange Group 2.30pm - "Key Capabilities for Successful Latency Management" * Fergal Toomey, Chief Scientist & Co-Founder, Corvil 3.20pm - Afternoon Break. Coffee/tea service in exhibits - King George Room 4pm - "Considering a New Market Opportunity? Buy, Build or both?" Fragmented markets, multiple API’s, Mergers, platform upgrades (LSE) and feed maintenance. Complex internal structures with ever increasing cost pressure making it difficult to try out new strategies? Not convinced that lower latency is the answer to every question? In an ever-changing environment change is time and time is money. At what point does it make more sense to buy rather than build? * Jay Hibbin, Director Client Solutions, MarketPrizm |
|
Upper Sugar Room 1.30pm - "An Introduction to FPGAs for Financial Markets Applications" * Matt Dangerfield, Head of Trading Solutions, Fixnetix 2.30pm - "Practical Considerations for Local Networking: Ethernet vs InfiniBand" Ever wanted to know the difference between Ethernet and InfiniBand, but were afraid to ask? Come to this session for a clear explanation of the key differences, pros/cons, etc. Then enjoy a panel of leading experts discuss the practical issues of selecting between the two technologies. We don’t expect a definitive conclusion, but we hope the audience will leave better equipped to continue the debate within their own organisations. * Henry Young, Founder and CEO, TS-Associates (Moderator) 3.20pm - Afternoon Break. Coffee/tea service in exhibits - King George Room 4pm - "Low Latency Meets Cloud Computing: Designing for High Performance" How to leverage low-latency technologies in order to design and deploy private cloud infrastructure for high performance applications. * Sean Remnant, Technical Director, VADition, representing Arista Networks |

Informatica Program - The Mission Continues - Towards Zero Latency - Queen Charlotte Room Join Informatica and partners to learn more about the push to lower latency to zero! This special program led by Informatica - and co-located with the main Low-Latency Summit conference and workshops - will feature educational sessions and case studies, plus an opportunity to get your questions answered and network with your peers. REGISTER for the Informatica Program 9.30am - Session 1: Latest innovations in low-latency high-performance messaging software: Todd Montgomery, VP Architecture, Messaging, at Informatica will present some of the next generation advances in the Ultra Messaging product suite that help capital markets firms on their mission towards zero latency. Additionally, Martin Thompson, CTO of Informatica customer LMAX will discuss the merits of inter-thread communication for low latency application development and run-time. 11am - Session 2: Networking/computing innovations to further reduce messaging latency: This session will consist of an Informatica moderated panel of vendors, including Mellanox, Intel and Miracom, and a customer architect. Key topics discussed will focus on performance improvements and benchmarks in the areas of networking architectures, kernel bypass, and CPU design. 1.30pm - Session 3: Achieving enterprise-grade low-latency messaging in a single solution: Informatica will present how it is delivering enterprise-grade low-latency messaging software in a single solution. Also, several latency monitoring partners will conduct a panel on innovations in messaging management, and EMC will outline a new joint solution with Informatica Ultra Messaging for near-real-time analytics of data taken off the messaging bus. 2.45pm - Session 4: The global, next generation enterprise message bus: This last session will focus on a discussion of the next generation enterprise bus and how to extend it across WANs and to the web. Several vendors and a customer will participate in a panel to describe how to obtain a single user interface across asset classes, and to debate the key requirements for a next generation, lightweight enterprise bus.
