Bottega Quits Fed to Join Bank of America Merrill Lynch

John Bottega has left the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he was chief data officer of its Markets Division, to join Bank of America Merrill Lynch in a similar role. Bottega is one of a handful of visible chief data officers, and his arrival at the Fed was hailed as industry recognition of the need for a keeper of an institution’s data assets.

Direct Edge Launches EDGA, EDGX “Next Generation” Platforms

Completing its transition from an ECN to regulated exchange status, Jersey City-based Direct Edge today announced the launch of trading across all stock symbols on its EDGA and EDGX “next generation” trading platforms, the result of almost two years of planning and collaboration with a raft of technology partners, including Microsoft, HP, Intel and Cisco Systems.

StreamBase’s Component Exchange Encourages Community Development

StreamBase Systems is introducing a community development approach to complex event processing (CEP) with the launch of its StreamBase Component Exchange (SBX), which will allow developers to download and share reusable components in order to create complete applications. The company hopes to “spark innovation” with its initiative, which it says has been driven by customer demand. The move is another illustration of how financial markets firms are embracing collaborative and open source approaches as they seek to reduce development costs and speed time to market.
