Fingers pointed in all directions this week after the London Stock Exchange (LSE) let loose its Millennium Exchange electronic trading platform and some rather unusual market data popped up on traders’ screens.
Nasdaq OMX’s December move to acquire FTEN, a provider of real-time risk management systems, will give the market operator the ammunition to address its broker/dealer community’s response to the SEC’s requirement for pre-trade risk controls across markets. The deal also adds FTEN’s high-speed risk and data management to Nasdaq’s Transaction Services group, allowing it to leverage its relationships with some 70 market venues globally.
NYSE Euronext plans to move its options markets - NYSE Arca and NYSE Amex - to its Mahwah, NJ “Liquidity Centre” by the end of the first quarter, as it works to double their capacity to one million orders and 8.4 million quotes per second, with sub millisecond average order acknowledgements.
