Aegis Software has unveiled a new release of its FIX-based testing toolset, Exchange Simulator and Client Simulator. Exchange Simulator and Client Simulator are designed for the heavy-duty testing of FIX-based trading systems, for both the buy and sell side, for functional, regression and performance testing. The tools are designed for use by developers, QA and support teams and are useful in recreating real-time production problems, according to the vendor.

FIX 5.0 Service Pack 1, which includes 25 Extension Packs enhancing the current functionality delivered by FIX 5.0, is expected to be launched within the next two weeks after the receipt of industry feedback and testing. The service pack should help to reduce the cost of implementing additional FIX functionality for firms, as effectively they will be able to bolt on enhancements, rather than having to rip out and replace existing technology, according to FIX Protocol Limited (FPL).

Bank-owned messaging co-operative Swift has outsourced the management of its SwiftNet FIX service to Paris-based provider of FIX connectivity and trading services Ullink. Going forward, Ullink will be responsible for onboarding FIX clients on to Swift, and for managing FIX message flows over the Swift network. According to Ullink CEO Laurent Useldinger, “this will all be done under the Ullink name, but within the Swift framework”: the firms will become clients of Ullink, and sign commercial agreements with Ullink, while continuing to send their FIX messages over the Swift network.

The recently completed acquisition of enterprise messaging solutions provider TransactTools by NYSE Group brings into the acquiring company a business “interestingly adjacent” to its core activities of running the New York Stock Exchange and NYSE Arca, according to TransactTools CEO Sam Johnson. While the core business of an exchange is to provide liquidity, TransactTools’ business is “all about getting customers to liquidity”, he says. As exchanges start to “look a lot more like technology companies” going forward, in response to the realisation that they can never control all the liquidity, they will extract value from “offering the ability to take customers to liquidity, wherever it is”, Johnson contends. “Our business will be a source of new revenue for NYSE Group, alongside its traditional business.”
