Nasdaq OMX Extends High-Frequency Inet Trading Platform Across the Nordics and Baltics

Nasdaq OMX went live with its next-generation Inet trading platform across seven Nordic and Baltic equity exchanges last week, claiming that increasing trade volumes in the new high-frequency environment would compensate for liquidity fragmentation caused by market participants adopting the technologies that will allow them to access not only Inet, but also alternative trading systems.

Turquoise Acquisition to Speed LSE Dark Liquidity Deployment

The combination of the London Stock Exchange’s Baikal dark liquidity initiative with Turquoise – as envisaged by the LSE and the latter’s investment bank shareholders – will likely lean heavily on Turquoise’s existing dark pool platform and related third-party supplier capabilities, at least in the short term.

TSE’s Arrowhead Goes Live Without Hitch, Paving Way for High Frequency Trading in Japan

According to plan, the Tokyo Stock Exchange went live January 4 with its new Arrowhead matching engine, with no technical issues. Arrowhead’s arrival was heralded as the catalyst for a new era of high frequency trading in the Japanese marketplace, but that didn’t prevent market commentators from pointing out that the new platform’s performance lags that of leading-edge alternative trading systems.

LSE TradElect Outage Sparks ‘Auction Mode’ Criticism

Despite vociferous protests from rival multilateral trading facilities (MTFs), it appears that the London Stock Exchange was within its rights to place its marketplace in temporary auction mode late last month, when its TradElect platform suffered yet another technical hitch. Chief among the complainants was Chi-X Europe, which criticised the LSE’s decision in a detailed announcement to the marketplace.

Cinnober Latency Paper Outlines Issues of Measurement

This month’s release by Cinnober Financial Technology of a white paper discussing the issues relating to latency measurement progresses the ongoing debate on measurement in the face of growing marketplace acceptance of low-latency liquidity access. For Cinnober, the paper is an attempt to shed light on its own methodology for measuring the latency of its exchange trading platform in the hopes of increasing transparency around what it sees as an oblique subject.
