TSE’s Arrowhead Reduces Trading Costs, ITG Report Says

The Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Arrowhead trading platform, which went live on January 4, has reduced the cost of trading Japanese equities. According to statistics collated by ITG, the cost of trading Japanese equities dropped 37% in January 2010 from December 2009, the largest month-on-month fall in more than 18 months.

UBS Follows Nomura’s Lead in Building European Dark MTF

UBS investment bank has become the second bank in Europe, after Nomura, to set up a dark multilateral trading facility (MTF). UBS is offering open membership and the addition of a central counterparty to mitigate risk and reduce costs.

Nasdaq OMX Extends High-Frequency Inet Trading Platform Across the Nordics and Baltics

Nasdaq OMX went live with its next-generation Inet trading platform across seven Nordic and Baltic equity exchanges last week, claiming that increasing trade volumes in the new high-frequency environment would compensate for liquidity fragmentation caused by market participants adopting the technologies that will allow them to access not only Inet, but also alternative trading systems.

FESE European Market Share Stats Challenge Definition of ‘Primary Exchange’

The latest trading volume statistics from the Federation of European Securities Exchanges are testing the definition of ‘primary exchange’, with some market practitioners suggesting a new term of ‘listing of origin’ for instances where the original venue of listing is no longer the main pool of liquidity for a given stock.

GTXGain Capital, best known for its retail Forex.com portal, is today launching GTX, a foreign exchange electronic communications network (ECN) aimed at the professional marketplace for FX trading, including financial institutions, hedge funds, CTAs, high frequency traders, broker/dealers and high net worth individuals. Gain is tapping technology from Bermuda-based Forexster to underpin the new initiative.

Pulse Trading’s BlockCross ATS has selected FIX Flyer’s Daytona Monitoring system for its independent alternative trading system. The implementation will allow the US equities block trading system to monitor and support client FIX sessions using the company’s Flyer Engine in real time.
