IBM Pitches Financial Markets Framework; Pre-Integrates Hardware, Software for Trading, Risk and More …

With the recent launch of its Financial Markets Framework, IBM is positioning itself as a provider of pre-integrated solutions to trading and investment firms, leveraging its own portfolio of hardware and software offerings, and augmenting them with consulting expertise and partner products. The move follows a direction that the IT giant has already taken in verticals such as banking, insurance, and outside of financial services.

RTI’s DDS V4.5 Moves Beyond Front Office with New Messaging Adaptors and SDK

Messaging specialist Real-Time Innovations (RTI) is this week announcing version 4.5 of its Data Distribution Service middleware, extending it beyond low-latency front-office applications to support middle- and back-office applications. The release includes a software development kit (SDK) allowing the creation of adaptors to link into disparate enterprise-wide systems, as well as pre-built adaptors for TCP/IP sockets and the Java Message Service (JMS).

Pete’s Blog - A Bigger After Life for 29West

News of 29West’s acquisition by Informatica broke on Monday morning (thank you for not trying to embargo the news, which most vendors hopelessly bungle). It was a surprise to me and to many people, but one that hasn’t been greeted with much debate or discussion. Unlike the NYSE/Wombat acquisition of a couple of years ago, this one looks pretty straightforward, and sensible. So not a whole lot to write about from a news angle, though it’s more interesting in the context of Informatica’s other acquisitions and how the data management specialist might leverage 29West.

London-based Paremus is adopting low-latency messaging middleware from Real-Time Innovations (RTI) for internal communications underpinning its Service Fabric cloud computing platform. The move will allow Service Fabric to be deployed more readily in support of high performance front office and trade processing applications, and also allows Service Fabric developers to leverage RTI’s middleware for their own messaging requirements.

Pete’s Blog - Sunrise on Oracle

Oracle last week finally completed its $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems, and the company wasted no time in setting out its road map for how its software and Sun’s hardware (and some software) are going to be packaged together so that the sum is greater than the two parts.

Pete’s Blog - Cloud Performance for the Front Office?

I hear lots about Cloud Computing these days, mostly from vendors about its promise to deliver on-demand compute and storage while reducing costs. I hear words like flexibility and agility, and terms like TCO and talk of applications, such as risk modeling, analytics and pricing. Now, thanks to some benchmarks run by upstart Cloudsoft Corp., with its partners Solarflare Communications, Arista Networks and Citrix Systems, the performance word has been added to the mix, and it’s not at all bad. Which makes me wonder whether - or really when - we’ll see cloud technology underpin trading in the front office.
