In today’s ultra-competitive financial environments, electronic trading systems not only require but also demand the greatest possible advantage in the delivery and receipt of market data and in the execution of trades. Electronic trading algorithms are essentially responsible for determining an organisation’s survival, as most trading systems input company information, analyst recommendations or security execution orders as the basis for their trading decisions.
Latency measurement outfit Trading Metrics has been forced to close down after failing to secure fresh funding. With a possible merger with another, undisclosed network services provider having fallen through, the company’s three main developers are now attempting to acquire the rights to the product and software in order to continue in a more streamlined version, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Many factors impact latency, from data throughput, to network design, to server workload to application architecture – and none of them are ever constant. That is why monitoring and measurement are imperative. We talk to Paul Doyle, technical marketing manager at Endace, about the challenges of monitoring, micro-bursts and being the ‘Official time keepers of the low latency race’.

Tora, a provider of electronic trading systems and access to liquidity for Asia, has deployed software from Trading Metrics, a privately held company with venture-backed funding from VantagePoint Partners, to measure and alert on trading latency, incorporating latency data into customer execution reports. The upshot is that Tora’s clients should going forward understand that if delays are occurring, where latency issues are arising.
Before one can accurately measure latency across a network, it’s important to make sure that all the devices connected to that network are running to precisely the same time. Endace recently rolled out support for the IEEE1588 specification, designed to achieve that synchronisation. And alongside the technology, the company also launched its new positioning as the “Official Timekeepers of the Low Latency Race.” Low-Latency.com asked Endace Technical Marketing Manager Paul Doyle about 1588 and the new focus.
Corvil, a latency management systems provider for trading network infrastructure, has unveiled CorvilNet 5.0 - the latest version of its product designed to continuously monitor, analyse and optimise network infrastructure with microsecond granularity to meet the real-time performance and analytical requirements of high frequency electronic trading.
Trading network infrastructure latency management systems provider Corvil has secured $12 million in a new round of funding from Vesbridge Partners, which joins existing investors ACT Ventures and APAX Partners, to lead the new round. Vesbridge’s Zenas Hutcheson has been named to Corvil’s Board of Directors.
Corvil, a technology and market leader in latency management systems for trading network infrastructure, has announced a global deployment of its flagship CorvilNet product in Credit Suisse, one of the world’s leading banks. Corvil teamed with BT to deliver a best-in-class solution for automatic and continuous monitoring, analyzing and optimizing of the Credit Suisse network for low-latency.

Low latency monitoring specialist Endace and Infiniband networking provider Voltaire are working together to provide passive monitoring capabilities for Infiniband-based interconnects for high performance computing and low latency environments.
Together, Endace and Voltaire are offering solutions that passively capture traffic on single data rate (10 gigabits/second) and double data rate (20 gigabits/second) links, measure packet delay and jitter and deliver visibility across the entire network infrastructure, with zero impact on network performance.
Low latency monitoring solution provider Endace has added IEEE1588 support to its DAG (Data Acquisition and Generation) monitoring card, providing a more practical and less expensive method for clock synchronization in a distributed environment.
