Boerse Berlin’s Equiduct has released a pan-European VBBO (volume-weighted best bid & offer) real-time data feed and it has also selected low-latency market data and trading infrastructure connectivity provider Fixnetix to develop a feed for its Equiduct Trading platform. Equiduct Trading expects to launch later this year providing cross-border trading services.

Following its implementation of Arcontech’s CityVision StarNet market data platform in 2005 (Market Data Insight, January 2005), Tradition Group has extended this system to manage contributions to Bloomberg in London. The Tokyo hub has also been rolled out, to support local contributions to a number of vendors in that region. The deployment is integrated with the London hub and provides data transfer between the locations. Other data collection hubs are in the process of roll-out. Currently the data platform collects data from 10 offices globally with further expansion planned for 2008.

Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) has launched an upgrade to its market data system SGX DerivativesQuote, powered by OMX’s next generation distribution system for market data, Genium Market Info. The new system enables SGX to enhance data dissemination services to market participants, allowing brokers and data vendors to offer more comprehensive data to their customers. Key benefits of the new system include its ability to support 10 levels of bid and ask sizes (compared to three previously), as well as calendar spreads data for all futures contracts on SGX (compared to only for Euroyen futures contract previously).

Fixnetix, provider of ultra low latency market data, has signed an agreement with Chi-X Europe to deliver market data and trading connectivity. Fixnetix has connected to the Chi-X matching engine with a roundtrip latency as low as 400 microseconds, it says. Fixnetix can deliver data in multiple formats with sub-millisecond data transformation if required, and deliver these services on the wire for ease of integration. Whether co-located using Fixnetix’s Source hosting partners or connecting via the company’s Ethernet and Fibre networks, Fixnetix reckons it ensures financial institutions can directly access both Chi-X and any competing European exchange gateway utilising Fixnetix ultra low latency point to point network connectivity.

OMX and BT have entered into an agreement under which market data from OMX Nordic Exchange will be distributed through BT’s financial services network. The solution will generate access to the complete information offerings from OMX market data, which contains more than 800 companies. BT will enable access to the Nordic Exchange’s market data to a community of more than 10,500 sites worldwide, which will help eliminate the need for thousands of point-to-point connections to existing and new firms interested in obtaining OMX market data.

Currenex has been added as a market centre on the Secure Financial Transaction Infrastructure (SFTI) from NYSE TransactTools, a subsidiary of NYSE Euronext. Through SFTI’s network, customers are able to receive market data and trade on Currenex using TCP/IP, XML and FIX. Currenex provides execution technology and access to liquidity for banks, corporations and hedge funds in the foreign exchange markets.

Responding to demand for greater “simplicity and portability” in exchange data provision, the London Metal Exchange (LME) has for the first time in its 131 year history launched its own real-time direct data product. LMElive includes full market information and price depth for the LME’s non-ferrous metals and plastics contracts across all trading platforms. From February 25 it will also incorporate price and market information for the exchange’s new steel billet contracts.

Deutsche Börse’s newly available CEF ultra+ data feed, which supplies pre-trade and trade information on the international derivatives exchange Eurex, is billed as offering lower latency and greater data depth. CEF ultra+ uses a high performance protocol based on FIX 5.0, and requires no special hardware, according to the exchange.

Stock exchanges have given the thumbs up to a new programme by Reuters to address the thorny issue of unauthorised data usage head-on. In what it claims is “a unique bid to add transparency to the reporting of market data usage”, Reuters has unveiled a programme under which software applications which have met Reuters’ qualification criteria will be permitted to display a “Reuters Open DACS Enabled” label. This will be accepted by leading exchanges as evidence that organisations are taking credible steps to ensure their data use is authorised, Reuters reckons.

Thomson Financial’s strategic relationship with hedge fund order management platform supplier Paladyne Systems in fact belies an even more strategic initiative by the market data vendor to position itself as ‘vendor of record’ for applications providers seeking to embed market data into their applications.
