Thomson Reuters Adds Regulatory News with Planned Acquisition of Hugin Group

The curious world of regulatory news will watch with interest as Thomson Reuters moves to acquire Hugin Group from NYSE Euronext. The deal, announced this month, is expected to raise regulatory eyebrows, since it involves the acquisition of a Primary Information Provider (PIP), as defined under the UK Financial Services Authority’s interpretation of the EU’s Transparency Directive, by a Secondary Information Provider (SIP).

Deutsche Boerse/MNI Enters, AOL/Relegence Departs Algo News Business

There have been some comings and goings in the world of news feeds for algorithmic trading.

Deutsche Boerse, in its first real news initiative since its acquisition of Market News International from Xinhua Finance, used the Sifma Technology Management conference in New York last month to introduce its CEF alpha+ macro news feed, an ultrafast data feed that supplies macroeconomic news for immediate processing by trading applications. The move brings Deutsche Boerse into the ranks of suppliers of machine-readable news services, among them Reuters and Dow Jones.

Thomson Reuters has teamed up with AlphaSimplex Group to add a new NewsScope Event Indices (NEI) capability to its machine-readable news offering. The new addition seeks to bolster Thomson Reuters’ machine-readable offering as it competes with rival Dow Jones Newswires to deliver news in a format that can be consumed by event-driven trading and risk management applications.

Xinhua Finance Continues Shrinkage with MNI Selloff to Deutsche Boerse

The dismantling of Fredy Bush’s Xinhua Finance empire continues apace with the acquisition of Market News International by Deutsche Boerse’s Market Data & Analytics group. The news comes days after Xinhua’s decision to shut down its Xinhua Finance News operation, which produces the Xinhua Finance Greater China Equities Newswire, and raises questions about the Stone & McCarthy Research Associates unit.
