Thomson Reuters Opens Up RICs to Address EC Antitrust Concerns

The industry has until January 25 to offer the European Commission feedback on Thomson Reuters’ proposal to allow clients to license its Reuters Instrument Codes (RICs) in order to access third-party and internal market data. Thomson Reuters made the proposal as part of its attempt to settle an EC investigation launched in 2009 into whether its licensing policy for RICs stifled competition and breached EU antitrust rules (read more here).

Marfin Laiki Bank Selects Mighter Technology to Cut Trading Costs

Marfin Laiki Bank, a member of the Marfin Popular Bank group in Cyprus, has implemented trading floor desktop technology from Mighter, with a view to reducing costs, increasing desk space, easing maintenance and giving traders a better environment to work in. The bank was using a mix of old Reuters and Wey Technology desktop equipment when it decided last year to reconsider how it accessed trading information and how it could lower costs.

NYSE Technologies Announces Community Platform; IaaS Play for Capital Markets

With the announcement today of its Capital Markets Community Platform, NYSE Technologies is bringing cloud computing into the world of electronic trading and low latency. Well, kind of.

Already an established provider of hosted, managed services, such as its Superfeed data feed, and its Risk Management Gateway for pre-trade risk controls, the vendor - a unit of NYSE Euronext - is now providing infrastructure-as-a-service on which trading firms can run their own applications. Both dedicated infrastructure - including servers and storage - as well as virtualised infrastructure - aka cloud - is being offered, with low-latency access to NYSE real-time and historic data, and transaction services.
