The seemingly endless debate about fair value accounting and global harmonisation of accounting standards has meant that issues related to valuations and pricing are rarely out of the spotlight. High market volatility in the post-crisis environment plus downward pressure on costs has meant valuations data teams must deal with much more data with fewer resources at hand. Moreover, regulatory change and a push towards greater transparency have resulted in firms being required to provide more data around a price than ever before; simply providing a price on its own is no longer enough to satisfy regulators or end investors.
