Regulation and Risk Management Both Helping and Hindering the Data Management Cause, Say RDR Readers

Although many vendors are claiming that the global regulatory overhaul and a renewed focus on risk management practices within financial institutions have lent weight to the data management cause, it seems that they have also proved to be a hindrance. According to the latest Reference Data Review reader poll, half of respondents feel the developments have had a negative impact on their ability to get funding for data management projects this year.

EDM is Still Relevant But DDM is Rising in Importance, Say RDR Readers

Enterprise data management (EDM) is still a relevant concept to the financial market, according to Reference Data Review’s April reader poll. However, distributed data management (DDM) is rising in importance, likely as a result of the downward pressure on costs caused by the tough economic climate and the growth of electronic trading.

Poll Results: Operational Risk and Cost Top List of Concerns for RDR Readers

Operational risk and the desire for greater cost savings are the key issues driving financial institutions to invest in their data management infrastructure, according to the latest results of our reader poll. This result is unsurprising really, given the focus on doing ‘more for less’ in the current financial climate.

Majority of RDR Readers Facing Decreased Data Management Budgets for This Year

The majority of Reference Data Review readers will have to do more with less this year in terms of budget for their data management projects, according to the results of our latest reader poll. The respondents to our January poll indicate that 62% of readers are facing cuts to their budgets for 2009.

Valuations Vendor Consolidation is on the Cards as a Result of Introduction CDS CCP, Say RDR Readers

Most Reference Data Review readers believe the introduction of a clearing counterparty (CCP) in the credit default swap (CDS) market will result in a period of consolidation within the valuations vendor community. According to the results of our recent poll, 56% of readers believe consolidation is on the cards, whereas an optimistic 11% think there will be an increase in vendors over the next couple of years.

Central Utility for Reference Data is Desirable but Not a Realistic Goal by Next Year, Say RDR Readers

According to the results of our latest reader poll, the majority of you believe that a central utility for reference data is a desirable addition to the market. Over half of respondents, at 52%, indicated a central utility is needed, but said that it is not a realistic goal for next year.
