Ability to Prove Expertise in Risk Management is Crucial in Current Market, Says 7city Survey

It’s no secret that the profile of risk management has been raised since the financial crisis; after all, this year has seen a slew of reports on that very subject. Consultants and vendors have been profiting from the increased spend in this area and now financial training companies are getting in on the act. One such firm is 7city Learning, which this week produced a survey highlighting the importance of demonstrable expertise in risk management practices (unsurprisingly, something that the firm teaches on a short course basis).

UK FSA’s Failed to Engage Industry in Liquidity Risk Regime, Says JWG-IT

Given the industry feedback thus far, it’s no surprise that think tank JWG-IT’s recent survey results have indicated that the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) has failed to engage the market in its liquidity regime proposals. The results of the think tank’s polls confirm what has been the topic of every roundtable and panel discussion over the last seven months: UK banks are no way near prepared for the implementation deadline in the fourth quarter of this year.

Costs Have Come Down But Cross Border Activity in Europe Remains a Costly Business, According to Commission and Oxera Report

The costs of trading and clearing and settlement have fallen in general as a result of the introduction of MiFID and the Code of Conduct, but some problems remain to be tackled. There is significant cross border activity throughout Europe and, in general, the cost of this activity is higher than that for domestic transactions, according to a report commissioned by the European Commission and conducted by Oxera. However, this difference can largely be attributed to economies of scale, as investors investing in cross border markets will generally have lower levels of activity than domestic investors, says the report.

Special Report: Complex Event Processing

Download this special report for FREE now! Click the link below.

Over the past couple of years, Complex Event Processing has emerged as a hot technology for the financial markets, and its flexibility has been leveraged in applications as diverse as market data cleansing, to algorithmic trading, to compliance monitoring, to risk management. CEP is a solution to many problems, which is one reason why the emerging marketplace is growing, with many vendor options to choose from.

But CEP is not a solution in itself, and so technologists need to concern themselves with how to integrate it within a complete application architecture, how it can best be leveraged, and how to streamline development and deployment. And with multiple vendor choices, choosing the right CEP approach for the job is an important, and early, activity for firms looking to adopt it.
